Yeah, and then didn't they move it to LAX after the merger? As I recall, it was one of the unrestricted beyond-perimeter slots that each of the four majors (US, AA, DL,UA) got. US had nothing better to do with theirs than SAN, but once they merged with AA LAX (as a second AA LAX-DCA flight) made sense.
