Just wrapping up a four-night stay here. I felt this was a great value at <US$200/nt, however my room was quite small and I had a nagging feeling maybe I should’ve splashed out for the Park Hyatt (roughly double with my corporate rate) since Australia is not a place I’m likely to come back to often.

Booking
  • Around US$190/nt with my corporate rate
  • I applied a TSU and was confirmed into a Harbor View Suite. However, around 2 weeks before my stay Hyatt reached out to me and let me know they had booked me into an ineligible suite type and the TSU suite was indeed not available. I didn’t find time to escalate it so ended up back in the base room.
  • I then tried to use the family plan to add on another room for 50%. However, I was never able to get this to work successfully either as Hyatt could not figure out how to book it after three tries, and the hotel never responded when I contacted them.
Check-in/Room
We were able to check in around Noon and 4PM checkout was offered with no trouble. Uber from the airport was much cheaper than the train for three pax, so we did Uber which took around 25 mins at midday.

We were upgraded to a harbor-view room on the club floor. We were at the very southern end and the room was dead quiet. The view is beautiful.

My wife and I were traveling with our son; the hotel jammed a rollaway between the main bed (basically touching the bed) and side table. There is essentially no drawer space for clothes and I thought the room was rather tight for 3 people. Other than that, there were no problems and the room was comfortable. There is a table that’s usable as a desk.

Lounge and Breakfast
168 ’s photos of the Lounge cover it well and we had similar food. Two hot options each night, typically some type of pastry or small tart. Everything else was exactly as pictured above. The lounge has huge windows that open and I really enjoyed sitting there in the evening looking out over the water, it’s a pleasant space.

We were proactively offered restaurant breakfast and ate there three days as it has a much wider selection. On our fourth day we ate in the lounge which has the advantage of a much nicer view, and still has eggs cooked to order. The lounge staff was very very friendly.

Location
I thought this worked well, I loved being by the water. There is an elevated highway between the hotel and the water but we didn’t hear any noise from it and you don’t really notice it most of the time. It’s also just a few minutes walk to the tram and I didn’t find the incline to be bothersome.

For Children there is a magnificent playground and water table at the southern-most end of the harbor. Just look for “Tumbalong Park Playground”. My 8 year old loved it, it’s quite extensive.

In Conclusion I thought I got a great value for my stay. However, I somewhat regretted not going for the PH since the room here was quite small, the PH was relatively reasonably priced with the strong US$ and my corporate discount, and I am unlikely to return to Australia for at least several years given the distance from home. Maybe next time!
