Sorry for taking a few days to do this. It was all quite uneventful in the end on Tuesday. I did speak to the cabin crew and ask them to mention it when they opened the door, but they seemed somewhat reluctant.
On opening the door I was maybe 2nd or 3rd out, there was a member of gate staff near the door and as it turned out one person in front had already mentioned to her that he was coming back - there were three of us in the end. The lady seemed to be very familiar with all this, and just said wait in the usual place and have your bp & passport to hand. So we all waited at the top in the corner and didn't go down the arrival corridor. After a few minutes just before boarding was about to start, the gate agent on the gate side opened the sliding door to let us through where she boarded us at the desk and we waited behind the desk until we were sent down - bonus that we basically got group 0 boarding treatment. I almost go the impression that you didn't even need to mention it to the first agent near the aircraft door and could just wait in the usual place.
The gate staff seemed all very familiar with this and clearly seem to be expecting at least one or two nutters per flight. They seemed happy and good-humoured in terms of facilitating the easy b2b so we didn't have to go landside. Credit to the staff there in doing this, they don't have to and could quite legitimately tell us we have to go landside - and it is not inconceivable they may start to do so. I am doing another one on Monday, and my last two in November. I won't personally be booking anymore, but for those with residual ones left to do I don't think there is too much to worry about atm.
