Sounds exasperating! Thinking about it a bit more, I thought Marriott corporate sets the point rate and deducts the points from the member account for an award stay. They issue an e-certificate to the hotel to cover the cost of the stay which the hotel later submits after your stay to get reimbursed in cash. So, the issue is most likely with Marriott corporate. Furthermore, if they can’t correct the issue, ask them to issue the requisite number of points to make you whole as a courtesy. For your stay as described they should issue you 8k or 9K points to make you whole. If the rate has gone up, which you say it has, then they should give you the number of points needed so it still nets out to 4 x Cert’s plus 15K points for your stay. You shouldn’t be penalized for a system glitch.
