I think every tier has a financial benefit that can be defined / justified. Some are tangible, some intangible.

At every level there is something that can be justified:

- For Silver, as a tangible benefit, one used to earn more Avios for flights than a bronze or blue member. It's still true to some extent but less than previously but there is a value here as Avios have a value.

- For Gold for example there is additional redemption availability in economy - this can have a tangible benefit vs having to pay cash for a flight.

- At GGL there is (to an extent) guaranteed availability for redemptions which can have a value of thousands of pounds, context dependent of course. Be that skiing at half term or the big family holiday this can be substantial.

Lounge access, priority boarding, quicker issue resolution are very welcome of course but less tangible in terms of value.
