BA Silver Status is worth it if you fly a reasonable amount of time on Oneworld airlines.
Keep in mind that if you time it right, you can earn almost 2 years worth of status - you earn status for the rest of the BA year you are in and the next BA year as well. So there will be a lot of people flying April 2025 to requalify for status now everyone is harmonised...
It's possible with an ex-EU trip to the US from Europe to earn enough tier points for Silver Status in one trip - this is what I did in August last year, I flew Dublin->LHR->JFK->SNA. I paid £1800 (mainly because I booked it relatively late).
It's actually a much more subjective calculation than expected if this is "worth it". In terms of benefits I get free seat allocation (I always usually end up paying to get aisle seats anyway), I get free priority boarding (so no forced carry on check-in - this is particularly useful on BA's American one world partners), free Oneworld business class lounge access and free extra bags (that I never use!)
Given that I was flying to the US anyway, let's take £500 off that price for the economy flight I would have taken anyway. So that's £1300 for 2 years of benefits. Add on £300 (hotels, flights to Dublin etc) for relocation costs and compensation for not having a direct flight and that's about £1600 for 2 years of silver status. Keep in mind you get the personal benefit of travelling in business class on that specific trip - how much is that worth to you? How much would you pay for an upgrade to a US economy flight to business and feel you got a bargain? £400? So down to £1200 for 2 years of silver benefits. That's £600 a year. Now how much does silver status save you per flight? £25 for not having to buy over-priced food at the airport per flight? £15 saving on paying for seat bookings? So that's £40 per flight saving, so in this case if you fly more than 600/40=15 times a year then the status is worth it.
It's largely subjective but it is possible in your personal case to work out, for you, how many flights you need to take to make status worth it. You have the benefit of travelling in a couple and for many of the benefits this will double them - as you can guest your OH into lounges and pick seats for them for free. Hotel costs are also halved. If you book trips wisely and to places you want to go to anyway the actual number of trips needed to make it worthwhile can actually be very low.
