Free seat selection and lounge access is a pretty good perk - hence why most people say "Silver" is the sweet spot. For a couple who always travel together, as long as one member retains status that is all that is required... so it's not utterly bonkers for one person to maybe shuttle around on a few cheap domestics / Europeans in Club Europe to get the extra 80/120 or whatever is needed - to then enable both of you to get the benefits of Silver when on same bookings.
