dvs7310 - QR would cost around 50k additional Avios so not a huge amount, but I'm not Avios rich so it represents a significant portion of my balance. If I choose CX then I plan to convert Amex points to Asia Miles but as they're both 1:1 conversions. What do you mean about being eligible to enter Qatar? Are there strict restrictions? I'm a British passport holder so I had just assumed that I wouldn't have any issues.
My first preference is to use Virgin Points to book ANA but I'm very pessimistic about my chances of being able to do that!
With a British passport you're fine to enter Qatar, I wasn't sure which country you held. I've seen quite a few questions from people with much more restricted passports in the past, so it's always worth a reminder.
The Loyalty Lobby folks seem to have good luck getting NH but they're booked close in. I've also done it a few times but always booked the same week I was flying. Of course nothing is guaranteed, but if you look at next week and the following you can get an idea of close in availability. UA's site is good for that.
With QR, there's not a chance I'd pay 50k more Avios for it over CX. It's good but not +50k good.
