I found an old dress code thread from 15 years ago. Most folks seem to agree that dressing up a bit is a good idea. So maybe no shirts and sandals? And shine those shoes! I wonder if my husband is right? (We are both guys.)
I often wear my dress shoes when flying. Because I like to take advantage of the shoeshine service in the first class lounges in Tokyo. Apart from that I will usually fly in a pair of black jeans and a long sleeved Nike tshirt, though some times a shirt or a polo. If not flying JAL, the dress shoes will be in the suitcase and I'll be wearing a pair of what I like to call dress sneakers.
