Unhappy Odds of changing a flight to only use the return leg

I have a Delta round-trip flight from PBI-ABE. A work trip has come up JUST ahead of that trip. I don't have time to fly back home; instead, I will now be flying to ABE directly from the work engagement. However, I still need the return trip.

I'm well aware that if I just no-show for the outbound, the return trip will be canceled. However, is there any Delta-sanctioned way to modify this itinerary to cancel only one segment? I'm not even looking for a refund, just hoping to avoid a bunch of additional fees for preserving one half of my itinerary.

(I've tried reaching out to Delta on this, but their chat support is unhelpful and I'm unable to reach a human by phone. Their automated system won't let me.)
