I once broke my clavicle during a trip, had my right arm in a mitella for a few weeks as cure, and ended up on the way back 1 week after I had my accident checking my hand luggage to be sure....... As for KLM, I would not bet on a free upgrade, they hardly do that. So get your exit row seat or pay for the upgrade if you want J.
