Where I know I'll be arriving before 5-6pm, it puts me off booking Marriott hotels these days.
Part of my problem is that this seems to be a blanket policy at this hotel - they aren’t modulating it based on demand on the day of departure - it’s just a “you need to get out.” I can’t confirm this, but that’s how it seems.
It’s also annoying that they seemed rather put out by my request to switch in the morning - I asked at 7 AM - “okay, I have to call my manager” - came back down at 7:35 AM - “we will know in 5 minutes” - asked if there was actually a room to move to - “we don’t know” - pushed back and said I wanted to sleep, and they seemed to find a room by calling again. Everything here was very much a “we have to call some mysterious person in the back” - even my initial upgrade. I prefer it when front desk associates are more empowered to make decisions and provide helpful information.
