Lots of "immediate buy-up" fares out there on AA. Have been on several myself that coded, for example, into I (this includes a decent number of domestic fares).
For example, I just booked a domestic coast-to-coast in First (I) but the unerlying fare is Sxxxxx. Haven't had any trouble crediting to BA.
Like others said, the booking code matters, the underlying fare code less so. An example is when you book BA coded TATL on e.g., CDG-LHR-JFK, where the BA CDG-LHR will usually go into S bucket while the BA LHR-JFK will go into O. Both economy in this case but just to highlight. And then you obviously get credit based on S for CDG-LHR and O for LHR-JFK.
Ahhh... that makes total sense. On ExpertFlyer, the Fare Basis shows up as OHN0OCP1, but the Fare CLASS is P, Cabin PE. Then, am I correct to guess that it will credit as P, rather than O?
For context, Fare Basis
OHN0OCN1 shows the Fare Class as O, which is in Economy cabin.
This is totally new to me. Thanks! Glad I asked.
