Delta Airplane Incidents Master Thread 2024-

This happened Sunday night 5/12/24 and involved Delta flight 2577, a 737-900 scheduled to leave at 1951 (DL's last flight of the night to ATL). The flight left from Gate A9, which is a shared gate around the corner from Delta's usual gates, B2 through B6 inclusive). According to flightaware.com DL2577 ultimately left CLE at 0051 Monday morning and arrived at ATL at 0220. It was unclear whether any passengers were on board. It appears that the incident happened as the inbound flight from ATL was parking at A9, with the Spirit jet at a neighboring gate.

WOIO-TV, the CBS affiliate in the Cleveland market, posted the following story on its website:The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) launched an investigation after two planes collided while at the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport Sunday evening.

An agency spokesperson says the wingtip of Delta Airlines Flight 2577 struck Spirit Airlines Flight 655 while it was parked at its gate at around 7 p.m.udlleSeniors The Delta flight departed from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, according to the FAA.

A Delta spokesperson confirmed the 180 customers on the Boeing 739 (Flight No. 2577) were delayed for four hours while being reaccommodated on a replacement flight.

Delta officials confirm they will continue to investigate the incident, adding nobody on either aircraft was hurt.
“Delta teams worked to reaccommodate customers to their final destinations after the wingtip from Delta flight DL2577 made contact with a parked aircraft at CLE. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”

Delta Airlines spokesperson
Spirit Airlines flight 655 (CLE-LAX) was parked at the gate in Cleveland (CLE) and in the process of boarding when the wing tip of another airline’s aircraft made contact with our aircraft. Our Guests deplaned normally through the jet bridge, and no injuries to Spirit Guests or Team Members were reported. Safety is our top priority, and the aircraft was removed from service to be thoroughly inspected by our maintenance team. We are reaccommodating our Guests with alternate travel arrangements as quickly as possible.
