Yeah, this works - funnily enough we were on a business trip flying LHR-JFK and the our colleague who was Group 1 took like 5-6 of us with him (we were groups 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, and 7/8). The gate agent just laughed and waved us all through to the protest of other passengers waiting in Group 2
