I write this, as based on flight data you would have had a good chance to catch LH424 on 12-Apr. LH1727 arrived at 15.51 (scheduled 14.30) and LH424 left at 16.50 (scheduled 16.05). An hour would have been enough to catch a connecting flight in MUC.

We followed their advice as it was what we knew we should do. Staying in Zagreb for the flight the next day was useless. We had to clear immigration and customs in BOS to catch the last Logan Express bus to our car which was 10 miles away.
You have a very tricky story here. This is a connection that can be made under almost all circumstances. 'An agent said' is not a great story for EC reg 261. If you tried to make it to the BOS gate, it was closed and the agent there re-booked you ... that's the way to go.
Just be careful to add any such details to your claim, that will just cause problems. Also, don't state IDB. Simply, delayed inbound to MUC and forced o/n till next day. See what comes back.
