Recently stayed. I can't recommend it. I prefer the Hilton Tokyo for a Shinjuku hotel. Hilton Tokyo's location is much, much better - underground connections to Tochomae (Oedo line) and Nishi Shinjuku (Shinjuku line), maybe 5-8 minutes for each. You need to walk about 15 minutes for the Kimpton Shinjuku to get to Shinjuku station. The Kimpton housekeeping kept placing the rubbish bin under the sink where your feet go, even though I moved it to the side each time; they didn't arrange the toiletries on the counter neatly; they were inconsistent about folding; the Hilton was satisfactory on all these fronts. The front desk at the Hilton handled requests gracefully and promptly, while the Kimpton had a kind of "well, whatever" vibe. The Kimpton's fitness center is worse and there isn't much of a lobby to speak of. The only reason to choose the Kimpton is if you dislike families (lots of them at the Hilton).
