With that considered, I may just do a carry-on bag, as I'll only need enough clothes for 2-3 days.

I noticed on AA's site that the maximum size for a carry-on is 45" (length plus width plus height). Does this apply to all AA planes? I noticed mine will be MD80s/83s, and am wondering if a 20" vertical carry-on will fit without any problems.
