The duplicated cancellation is to be expected, explicitly not allowed, and simple refund seems appropriate

Only thing that is not clear is the issue with Egypt Air (MS), if award space existed, typically UA will allow that change. What was their explanation of the issue? Was it in the same class of travel?

As far as you question, The cancellations and travel disruptions were clearly outside of UA's control. What specifically do you believe deserves compensation?
