Back in my frequent flyer days I was gold in star alliance and my (then pregnant wife) and I flew back from China to SIN. The flight was completely over booked and it was bedlam so I was unknowingly upgraded and moved to J when boarding but my wife wasn't. I asked as best as possible (language was an issue) to the agent as I didn't want to leave my pregnant wife on her own so can she be upgraded as well to which the reply was no. So I accepted as to avoid delaying a lot of people and boarded, I then asked the lady now sitting next to my wife if she would like to swap seats to J. She at first looked bemused (language again), understood, happily agreed and I assume enjoyed the experience!Not in the same league as cw to F but definitely better to stay with the ones you love Vs a nicer glass of bubbly.
