It's actually not. It's just MAD-LHR on one PNR and LHR-CPH on another. Not sure if that changes the calculus at all.

Of course, no real grounds for complaint if they refuse.
That's my thought, as well. From my experience flying AA, agents at the airport are going to be much more likely to bend the rules than an agent over the phone.
