A nice touch. This did not happen when flying (pre-Covid) with EK.

Several years ago while on an overnight stop of about 24 hours in DXB, EK refused to let to let me short check/remove my bags on my returning ATH-DXB-DOH. My flight was returning to DOH. on a DOH-DXB-ATH RT. On the outward flights I was allowed to remove/short check my bags in DXB.
