Last Friday night, LHR-HAJ.

I was booked onto that flight that afternoon, 1A and 1F were taken and I was in my preferred 1C, with 1D having been empty.

1F boarded first after me, then 1A. After a while, 1D was filled by a woman who was talking to 1F. Perhaps she upgraded at the last minute, etc. Crew asked to see her boarding pass and 1F became quite indignant - "But we really want to sit together," followed by "She's my wife" and "Can't she just stay here because no one else is using it? Look, I have a silver card."

The woman in 1D disappeared graciously, but I'm confused as to whether 1D had upgraded himself and expected to get his wife along for free, or if they were on separate bookings with him choosing both to fly in Club and separately from his spouse (because strangely, they didn't want to sit together if that meant him going back to Euro Traveller, which the crew did offer.)
