You mean Nishi-Tachikawa Station, I think. The 10:37 departure from JR Shinjuku gets there at 11:07. Other rapid trains take around 40 minutes. Then just 5 minutes to the park. Add 15 minutes to get from the Hilton to Shinjuku Station.
Basically, it is one hour each way, door to door. Do you want to spend about two hours to get to/from a park? In the case of Showa Memorial Park the answer very well sh/could be yes. This is no simple park. It is vast and worth the trip.
Two hours travel and four hours there does make it a day trip, You kinda gotta like parks. This is not a place to enjoy a bento and spend a half-hour looking around and saying "oh this is nice" and moving on to some Tokyo excitement.
Yes, Nishi-Tachikawa station is the one with the entrance next to the park.
For children like mine, it’s a paradise. The hardest part was having to get out at closing time, always came too soon. I guess I didn’t really take enough notice of the name of that smaller station as I was usually too focused on consoling my daughter.
