For others, the one-time sign-up bonus (SUB) is the main attraction.
As explained upthread, those to whom the Marriott Bevy AmEx card has most value are those who frequently stay at Marriott properties, and for whom the $15K spend is trivial, to earn a 50K-point free night award (FNA) certificate.
For sure the SUB is worth the AF. $15k everyday spend would earn at least 30k transferrable points which I would value at $600+ Perhaps some can get $600 from a 50k night and some points, but I'd rather have the transferrable points.

Quite so. Plus, for those of us with a fairly large number of short & inexpensive stays, the 1,000 point bonus per stay is appealing.
I'd value the 1k points at $5, so that's not a big draw for me, any more than foregoing breakfast to receive 1k at checkin. But everybody has their own priorities...
