I need help figuring out something. I am considering buying some TK miles before the bonus mile campaign ends today:

According to the campaign, if I purchase 80,000 base miles, I will receive 80,000 extra miles, totaling 160,000 miles. I understand that the extra miles will expire on Dec 31st 2025, but I am trying to understand exactly when the base miles will expire. My understanding is that the 3 year rule applies to the base miles, but do we count the current year in this calculation? That is, would these base miles expire on Dec 31st 2026, or on Dec 31st 2027?

Related, may I also ask if I instead choose to transfer miles from Citi or Capital One to TK today, would these miles expire on Dec 31st 2026, or on Dec 31st 2027?

I have searched through FT as well as more broadly over the internet, but couldn't find exactly how this 3 year expiration rule works in practice.
