I understand your feelings having been through these situations at TRG.
But when weather is bad at least they can get you home via bus!
One of my experiences coming back from four weeks offshore. The choice in AKL was take the bus, or wait it out in the regional lounge. A colleague decided to wait it out while I took the bus. He ended back in TRG middle of the next day, where as I got back to my house same day.
Sure it was not as comfortable as flying, but I got back in much more timely manner.
