I've never flown partner flights before, so not sure what benefits transfer over as far as seat selection. I booked an award Premium Select itinerary on DL, connecting on KE for my final leg. This booked into X class on KE. My DL FF# is in the KE system when I view my itinerary on the KE website. Should I have access to premium seats on the KE flights being STE+? If I try to select any of the purple or green seats, it wants to charge me. Just not sure what the reciprocal benefits for seat selection are here. No (apparent) problems selecting any of the non-preferred seats.
As STE+ you should get some (but not necessarily all) preferred seats available at no charge. When your FF # is on properly, that happens automatically. Try to reenter it and save on the KE site.

KE is not DL and doesn't play games like that (almost no other airline is as bad and poorly run as DL). At least not in terms of schedule changes. Though if your KE flight is cancelled, then DL is not going to do anything put you on another airline, unless there is ready X inventory available on an alternate route via a SkyTeam airline and you spoon feed the typical hapless DL res agent the alternate flights.
