To be fair, the main counters currently just say 'Foreigners' or 'Chinese Narionals' (apart from eChannel, Crew, etc.)
Seems to be decently clear.
Adding even more separate counters might make it even more confusing.
But yeah, there's a LOT of different ways now that you can enter China. Maybe they'll figure something better out eventually?
They don't need to differentiate the counters, but if the signs basically say: WITH visa go here, WITHOUT visa go here, it is a bit confusing that I should "know" that even though I don't have a visa, I should follow the WITH visa direction. Not just now based on these new rules for certain European countries, I expect it to be equally confusing for, say, Japanese people who have had visa-free travel for a long time with similar limitations in terms of time they are able to spend in China.

But, I will admit I expected to get some kind of "visa" issued to me on the spot and pasted into my passport rather than.. Nothing at all. I believe they do put something in your passport for the 72/144 TWOV ones?
