Strange security breach.

This past Saturday, I got a message on my phone that my reservation for Saturday night was cancelled. I tried to log into my account, but could not. I called Hertz and spoke to a person (not so easy, option 4 followed by option 3 got me to a human.) When verifying information, it turned out the email on the account had been changed to a variation on my first and last name at a different provider. But the password had apparently not been changed. Hertz reset the email to mine, I logged in using old password, and made a new reservation. But I was unable to change my password. I flew to Detroit, and picked up my car (Pres Circle), and when I was exiting the checkout guy said "You know, all three of your reservations today have been cancelled." I said I didn't cancel them, and he said I should be OK and drove away.

This time I saw no phone messages that I had cancelled. I worked with Hertz some more and found out this time both the email and phone had been changed. (email to the same variation on my name). Hertz set both back to mine, reset my password, and told me to work from the website and not the app to reset my password. This worked, and nothing has gone wrong in the subsequent two days. (I.e. I can log in, see my rental, see my profile.) I returned the car with expected charges. I tried a sample rez and everything looked OK except it had my phone # but said the country was Canada.

Does anyone have some idea what might be going on here? I don't THINK any thing bad happened except worry and phone time.
