But in seriousness, I prefer self-service options and the web has matured enough that these problems shouldn't exist.
The process I listed is a little long but it also helps pull the records for the other connecting flights.

I do like being able to text an Alaska agent for things I can't do online but that only works when using a U.S. number.
Which reminds me, I need to WhatsApp to Condor to request a seat assignment for an upcoming AS award. Yes, that is the easiest and actually pretty painless way.

I don’t disagree with you, but the Condor website is barely functional as it is, and AS’s site is pretty terrible, too (considering we are in the year 2024 and some of us have been using web browsers for 30+ years). So not having to deal with the aggrevation of even dealing with the crap UI and bizarre errors for a once or twice a year task is helpful. Or just think about the Twitter/chat agents as super smart AI bots that actually can handle things efficiently. I hear that is the newest cool thing (actually, many companies, incl. Alaska (hello, “Jenn”), have been pushing their cutely named and poorly functional char bots on us as the greatest new UI for solving issues and getting answers for years. In a few years when AI actually works, that may actually be the only way of doing some actions. Why build dedicated UIs for rarely used flows when you can give your customers a chat UI that does the same.

As for US number… I use Google Fi. Not the cheapest option, but I just love not having to worry about international vs. domestic. My phone always has the same number, at no additional cost for data.
