Compared to regular Y, it was more comfortable. It was a bit wider but more importantly, the armrest is wider and your neighbour isn't quite as close to you as in Y. Recline is substantially better than in Y. Legroom in the first row of the cabin was ample, but apparently not so in the other rows as pax were asked to put the seat upright for meals, just like in Y.
The PE seat is still just a seat and definitely miles away from J. Based on my experience, I could and would choose PE on AY on the JFK or ORD route, but for flights longer than that, I wouldn't be too happy.
Any interesting observations otherwise about SB, like food etc.? I think in general PE is a solid product for max. ~8h dayflights. You get a bit more spacious seat with a deeper recline and footrest, something usually worth it on AY's prices, I think. But as mentioned, AY doesn't have that many routes I'd be happy with sitting in PE; JFK, ORD, DOH, DXB. That's about it. And a definite no-no for nightflights, for me at least.
