I purchased international (SFO-ICN) BE roundtrip tickets for $1200. With an urgent need to change dates, I contacted 2 United reps, and they suggested I upgrade to regular economy for a buyout fee of $200 (which is issued as an FFC) and then use it for the same class tickets (regular economy) with the desired dates. They confirmed that since this FFC comes from the RE, I can only use it for RE tickets, not BE.

Can anyone confirm if this is true? How about using this FFC to buy RE (or full-refundable) tickets and cancel them after 24 hours? Could it issue an FFC with a new Confirmation # I can use to buy BE with new dates?
