I wouldn't call it "Struggling" as, to my understanding, these were not the originally intended routes for a lot of the aircraft. UA (very wisely) purchased a lot of metal during the pandemic expecting capacity issues on the rebound. They had short term over capacity of widebody aircraft and ran more routes than planes (mostly to Australia) this NW.
Q1 earnings were very good, so it seems to have worked and probably stole some traffic away from OW.
