We had no choice because her mom is from Odessa and she can't fly so that was only place to meet, but actually the airport is pretty mellow from what I saw. But as Russian speakers she blends good in Moldova. As a retired law enforcement officer, yeah I think Instanbul airport is pretty shady. From what I saw in the videos the airport workers all go away , I guess to watch tv or something , and after 8pm , their time, there was no one but the people waiting for planes. No security either. She showed me videos of people walking around talking to themselves throughout the night.Any country where the staff victimize THE VICTIMS, they create is pretty shady in my book. They even was laughing at her. I use Dr. Google and read loads of similar stories

.TK staff shouldn't be laughed at your wife but they were right in turning down free hotel because her tickets were issued by LOT so it's not a 235 tickets so TK doesn't have to provide anything to her.

Are you sure about that? LOT even said they are responsible and the TK customer service on the phone even mentioned she would get a hotel room, etc. Once TK took her as a passenger, she was their responsibility. I am sure LOT takes their passengers as well. When an airline assigns a passenger to an alliance carrier , I don't think the passenger assigns away any of their rights. Also the tickets were actually issued by Turkish airlines NOT LOT. We picked them up at the TK check in counter and it is the same looking boarding passe s as everyone else with TK tickets, except for the 3 digit number. Those numbers are not the responsibility of passengers to understand .When I was telling the story to the travel insurance representative, she actually said my story is among the worse she ever saw, except for the women who fell asleep in Istanbul airport and woke up with all her luggage gone and pockets cut.

Don't get me wrong, I still hold LOT somewhat responsible for not intervening but I don't think LOT owed her the hotel room, as LOT isn't the plane that made her late. Same as the 600 Euro compensation, TK was the late one here. As for going to LOT, actually there was no one at LOT that night there, but I was on the phone with them and they assured me TK would take care of her, and TK said the same thing. The problem is the staff at the airport have no idea what to do. But from reading so many stories that have a similar theme, there is a pattern.

Did she actually try making her flight to MOLDOVA?

They wouldn't put her on TK271, which she had a boarding pass for. They wouldn't put her on TK269, unless she paid for it, which is what she did, but she was suppose to ride for free on that one. They even on the LOT website had her rescheduled for it. There was no excuse NOT to put her on either of those planes, she had a boarding pass, and if she misses the 1st one due to their fault, they are suppose to put her on the next flight. I get the feeling that they might have thought TK271 left on time and she missed it but that flight was delayed 2 hours and she had a whole hour to get on that flight but instead they argued with her that she has to pay to board TK269. They behaved as if they didn't realize TK271 didn't even start boarding as of that time due to their own delays.
I would file a complaint with US Dept of Transportation against Turkish Airlines. That is the only language some of these airlines understand.
I would also look at EU 261 to file for formal compensation.
