I’ve used my companion voucher to fly to Japan a few times now, and the last four times have spent only enough time in Tokyo to get a flight out. The Haneda flight is perfect for connecting to the JAL network to anywhere you want to go in Japan; you can even use Avios for the flight but when I’ve booked my most recent trip I got the JAL pass which cost me £50 a flight I think.
Flying into Tokyo doesn’t equal having to spend all your time there!
