UA says for an international itinerary, I can take 3 bags of 23 kg. But, my first leg is domestic, so I am not sure what they are going to tell me at check in, perhaps the ANA rules will apply (2 bags).
So, is it 2 or 3 bags?

It's unlikely you have a fare break in HNL given that flight structure (UA doesn't market premium economy from west coast to HNL which is why that flight delegated to Y). High likelihood it's an international premium economy through fare so you'll get 2 bags for the fare, plus 1 for *G
Actually none of that matters. You're for sure on a premium economy fare on NH so you'll have at least 2 bags from the fare plus 1 for *G. Your UA flight would have 3 minimum from your platinum status.
