I do think 1) is your biggest problem. As far as AY are concerned your journey finished in HEL, so all passengers must have some right to enter Finland. Now they may be pragmatic when you show your onward ticket and let your wife and daughter board on the basis that they are not crossing the border there, but I think there is a very significant chance they won't since they have no right of entry for the ticketed destination.
