AA would
prefer to route everything through CLT, IMO, because of lower operating costs. But CLT doesn’t have the capacity for more int’l flying. It doesn’t have the gates.
I think that is the issue for AA - and maybe why they slowed PHL, hoping for CLT to expand enough. But they cannot wait for CLT to get enough capacity.
(CLT is getting 10 more gates this year + another runway in 2027. But that is not enough for AA as the airport is already over max.)
Maybe when the B/C expansions happen and another 20 gates are added we will see CLT get a FL lounge and maybe more. (Timing TBD)
But again, that is way in the future.
