I thought the 77Ws that UA bought 7-8 years ago were already end-of-the-line orders done on the cheap. Hard to envision them getting any more 777s of any kind at this point. Given the backlog of orders, I think they are locked into getting a bunch of 787s and (fingers crossed) the A350.
If UA wants more 777s, it would be
777x/777-9, assuming it ever gets to production.
