That is quite amazing. I thought this was one of the most successful hotels in Hawaii, it certainly gets excellent reviews. I stayed once many years ago when the price was around $400/night. Whenever I check, it seems like all the Wailea Hotels are above $1000/night, sometimes the Marriott dips a bit lower.
When you're that leveraged, the slightest cash flow dip creates a crisis. Think of it as your typical wage earner living paycheck to paycheck, and missing a few weeks of work. Except now it is an overencumbered hotel.
