When does the T-96 start if you have say a connecting flight? Is the T-96 from the first segment or the actual departure time of the A350 segment you want to secure bulkhead seats?

Last year I think I was able to get bulkhead seats at 96 hr before the first flight. But I just tried again for an upcoming flight and was told no bulkhead seats available. It was late at night and I was too tired to CAATA (Close App And Try Again - the app version of HUCA
). The next morning, after T-96 for the second flight, I was told bulkhead seats are available and I got to choose one. (Of course, this did also require some CAATA - among other things, I was told that "you are in business class, the seats are very spacious"
and that "bulkhead seats are reserved for PPS until 48 hrs before the flight"
.)
Quick hint to save time: when chatting with an agent, immediately give them your PNR and name (so they don't have to ask). Then, instead of asking if a bulkhead seat is available, ask something like "do you have any seats in rows 11 or 19 available"?
