I love the Maybourne hotels in London - Claridge's is my favorite hotel anywhere - and we are thinking of staying at the Maybourne Beverly Hills next month. I haven't been to LA in years and get the impression that folks in this forum seem to prefer the Peninsula. I wondered if anyone could provide any direct comparison between the two? The Peninsula is a little cheaper for the dates we're staying, and all else being equal it looks wonderful. But the Maybourne's rooftop pool and location seem a little better (at least in terms of being able to walk places easily) - plus the rooms being new where the Peninsula's look possibly a little more tired - and I would be grateful for any direct comparisons anyone could offer. We are looking to really enjoy the hotel - utilise the pool and spa, have good cocktails every evening in the hotel bar, etc., - so these things make a difference to us and I want to choose the right hotel. Thanks so much in advance.

It's not my favorite in the area, but a fine hotel, no doubt. Quite posh and continental (old world) in tenor, but has some bit of SoCal vibe in the design and furnishings.
The pool is indeed quite nice, and large for a roof pool in L.A.

800/n rack for a base-level room sounds like a bargain for Maybourne though. Sadly, that's a really tough rate for anything truly top-end in BH these days. L.A. in general has gone bananas.
