Holiday Inn Düsseldorf Toulouser Allee / Düsseldorf City

Holiday Inn Düsseldorf Toulouser Allee / Düsseldorf City

What is your Priority Club status?
Ambassador Diamond

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
In general yes.

I stayed for two night as the hotel offered lower tha usual rates with a 5k bonus point packaged. The hotel is located at Toulouser Allee, the closest stop is “Wehrhahn” served by S-Bahn and several tram lines. If offers a good connection to public transportation and downtown Düsseldorf (Heinrich-Heine-Alle) is only a short three stop ride by tram / underground. In front of the hotel are the main train lines connection Düsseldorf and Duisburg and if you want a quieter room take one of the garden side (which is not very bright as it faces the high-rise apartment building)

I booked a Standard Room on an flexible rate. The room was upgraded to an Executive Room the day before and to a Junior Suite during check-in.

A small fitness center is available on the first floor. Breakfast is served from 06:30 to 10:00 on weekdays and till 11:00 on weekends on the first floor.

The lobby is medium sized. There is a PC terminal next to the entrance on the left side. The check in desk are on the right side.

I skipped breakfast on both days (took the points which posted this time) as it was too late as I needed to be in my office at 06:00.

Check In was quick with not waiting time on the Tuesday after Easter. One agent was available. Status was recognized during the check in procedure it was mentioned that I received an upgrade to a Junior Suite and was asked of my choice as Diamond Amenity.

On the second day, I had dinner in the restaurant. The burger was this time better than on my previous stay, but the portion smaller. Service was okay, but the restaurant also not very busy.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Standard and received Junior Suite Room facing the building next door, i.e. side view of the train tracks and thus noisier than the one facing the back of the hotels.

How are the rooms?
The hotel is not that old. The Junior Suite did not show any bit of wear. In general the rooms are very small, so the Junior Suite offered a bit more space but was not overly generous. I have stayed in larger standard rooms.

My suite was located on the fifth floor at the corner of the building. Right next to the entrance was the bathroom with bath, sink and toilet. Storage space next to the sink was okay. The Hairdryer was placed in the closet. Mirror was not heated. Bathrobe and slippers were not provided, even in the suite. Soap and lotion were wall mounted larger bottles (Dove)

Iron and ironing board and safe were placed in the closet. In so far no dofference to the regular room

There was a large bed with two bedside tables and reading lamp on both sides to the left. A chair with a lamp was located on the other side of the room. Desk with two outlets was placed next to the entrance. USB outlets were not available.

The tv was facing the bed on a small sideboard which also featured a small divider. The TV could not be rotated, so you could only watch TV from the bed but not from the armchair or desk, which was a bit odd.

Windows could be opened. As the room was partly facing the front, there was some noise from the tracks

Minibar was free of charge (coke, beer, juice and sparkling water). Coffee and tea facilities were also available. A large bottle of still water was placed on the desk

Water pressure of the shower was okay. The glass panel was way too short and flooding of the bathroom was inevitable. A big mirror was also available but not heated. Shower gel, shampoo and lotion were wall mounted (Dove). Two small, medium and large towels were provided.

The room had blinds which really darkens the room.

The advanced rate was 96 EUR / night + 24 EUR for the 5k bonus points.

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A

What was good and what was bad?
Good
Rooms have real desk
Good connection to public transport
Windows could be opened, but front is noisier
Staff is friendly and helpful

Upgrade to Junior Suite

Neutral
keycard needed for power and room
Suite is very small
TV could not be rotated

Bad
Lack of USB Ports

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
The location is good. The rooms are small; the suite probably a better choice if you want to spend some time in the room, but okay if you do not want to spend much time in the hotel. Main Station, airport and downtown Düsseldorf are easy to reach. Staff is friendly.

Rooms are well maintained. The upgrade was nice and a first for me in this hotel. Unfortunately, rates are often above 100 EUR and thus the HIX Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof is my preferred hotel (but this is a personal choice).

I will return and actually this was a returning stay. Usually I am there if the hotel is below 100 EUR and offers 5k bonus point rates. Upgrade to Executive Room is the norm, to a suite was a first for me after several stays in this hotel in the past years.
