I disagree with all of those who say that Aegean going TATL would be a mistake. The population of Greeks and Greek - Americans that would be loyal to Aegean for something like this is immense. Not just Greeks of the diaspora, but also ex-pats living in Greece, and of course tourists. The only Star Alliance carrier serving Athens non-stop is United, and they only do it seasonally. Aegean is an airline that will have a huge following, and United has a lot to learn from a carrier like Aegean in regard to customer service (especially in business class). Trust me, as someone that travels frequently between Athens and the US, I try to avoid non-award flights with United. In fact, I flew United several days ago and their service is as bad as ever. Especially the ground staff and especially at Newark. Just garbage; they like to talk about premiere service with Polaris but they obviously have no idea how to offer it. Most of us that are forced to fly to NY via any European connection would gladly fly with Aegean direct, even if that meant paying a premium. Who thought that the Emirates ATH-EWR direct flight would be the success it is? Aegean should at some point get out of their comfort zone, and try the ATH-JFK route, if not 7 days a week, just several days a week, (not with the 321ER of course, they would need to "upgrade" to something else). You really should not discount the "ethnic pride" factor of the Greeks. Don't forget, we used to fly Olympic even after Onassis gifted it to the Greek gov't, and despite the fact the the gov't bankrupted the company and ran it to the ground.
