The privilege of scratching one’s head attempting to come up with an itinerary that yields value-for-money from a pass isn’t yet gone. The “Greater Tokyo Pass” (which includes Tama and Yokohama) keeps the tradition going, and - Look Ma! No JR!
On that note, can't say I'm an advocate for the
JR Tokyo Wide Pass either.
Tl;dr JR is awfully
kecchi about where and how passes can be obtained.
