The contract between Metro North and Amtrak apparently does indeed permit Metro North to prioritize its own trains over Amtrak, which they absolutely do. Once an Amtrak train is even slightly off-schedule & misses its "slot", it immediately gets deprioritized in favor of keeping Metro North trains running on-time.
Thank you for explaining. Now I understand why, as Amtrak passengers, we frequently get stuck behind a Metro-North train, causing us to slow down to an average of 40 MPH between NYP and Stamford.
It is a shame, however, that we are at this stage.
