Should be OK if it's not too hot. There's escalors and elevators in the stations (not sure if every exit has an elevator). A normal suitcase shouldn't be a problem, plenty of room in the metro.
Tickets (or passes) are easy to buy, and there's usually a friendly assistant nearby. It's a surprisingly long walk to get from the terminal to the metro station though, and stations tend to be quite big as well.
I've taken the metro more than once, but I had booked hotels next to the station (like 100 or 200m), and in Doha I usually travel handluggage only.
Otherwise, taxi's from Hamad airport are an easy option, and reasonbly priced.
