Amex GBT doing business as Egencia absolutely 100% uses Expedia as its back plane.
And based on commission and/or holdbacks, in situations where a room is booked without loyalty points, the connection between Expedia (trash) and, say, Marriott's Amadeus-based RRS/connections to GDS is broken AF.
Amex GBT used to be part of Amex (Amex retains a roughly 33% stake as of April 15).
Egencia used to be part of Expedia, since sold to GBT; as part of that GBT primarily books hotels via Expedia.
That Amex Travel dot com is an Expedia skin is coincidental; in particular regarding airfare purchases.
