In hindsight I would avoid Paris until after the Olympics. Huge venue construction projects are going on at Place de la Concorde, Trocadero, and Eiffel Tower gardens with all grassy areas closed, just some dirt paths open. Also, lot of other ancillary projects beautifying parks and businesses.
Actually, there are much less constructions than in the past months. On the Place de la Concorde, they have installed bleachers for the ceremonies, so a part of it is closed, but the cars can still go through the "Place".
A few days ago, around midnight, a friend dropped me off in front of the
Hôtel de Crillon and I saw many tourists waiting for the Eiffel Tower to start its sparkles.
IMHO, the city has never been so beautiful with many buildings (private and public) that have been cleaned up. It's actually very impressive.
